10 Ways to Use Coconut Oil

I don’t know if this is a black thing, or just my mom, but growing up, we always had coconut oil in the house. I never knew what it was for, but as the years went by, I started to detect a pattern. Every time I ran out of something and looked for a homemade recipe, coconut oil was the main ingredient. So, I decided to do a roundup for you guys. Here it is.

10 Ways to Use Coconut Oil

1. Lip Scrub

As an avid liquid lipstick fiend, my lips definitely need some exfoliation every once in awhile. Some coconut oil, honey, and brown sugar does the trick just fine. Scrub gently with a toothbrush and you’re golden!

2. Shaving Cream

For some reason, shaving cream has always irritated my skin, but life without it is a hassle for those who actually shave. Slather some coconut oil on your legs and it’ll go smoothly. It’ll feel smooth too!

3. Nonstick Cooking Spray

Okay, obviously you’re not going to spray it, but you get the gist. Take a bit of coconut oil and grease up your pan before making your Sunday dinner this week!

4. Popcorn

Really, I’m serious. Just try it.

5. Makeup Brushes

Gently apply coconut oil and let them sit for an hour and a half and you’re all good for tomorrow’s beat!

6. Makeup Remover

This one is a lifesaver for me particularly, as it is one of the only things that reliably gets out my liquid lipsticks, and it does it with ease. Less than a dime’s worth will do you just fine. That’s right, no harsh scrubbing after long nights.

7. Hair

Almost every morning since my natural hair journey included putting a bit of coconut oil in my hair for a bit of protection and added shine throughout the day. Also helps with detangling (yes, this goes for you 4c queens as well).

8. Cold Sores

Of all the things to inherit, I somehow get the cold sore? Kind of a raw deal if you ask me. Even still, just a dab of coconut oil every morning and night will help prevent/shorten your cold sores. At least until next winter.

9. Leather

I am a fan of boots, leather ones, but I, admittedly, don’t take the best care of them. Scrub with coconut oil and a toothbrush and your 5 inch man killers will shine just like new!

10. Chaffing Thighs

Okay, I haven’t quite earned the title “slim thick” but I do understand the pain of chaffing when I wear shorts, dresses and skirts. Coconut oil isn’t just a great lotion but it also helps with that chaffing problem we get during shorts season. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
